Francis "Frank" L. Schwartzer, beloved father, husband, grandpa and "good buddy" was called to heaven, Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at his home in Columbus with his family by his side. He was 79.
He was a strong man with a giant heart who never met a stranger. Frank worked hard for everything he had, and was rich in the love of family. He treasured and cherished his friends, and willingly shared with others. He understood that love, faith in God and devotion to family were the necessary ingredients for a bountiful life. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed duck hunting with his sons, fishing and nearly all sports. Each of us will treasure the times, experiences, and special memories we shared with him and will forever hold them in our hearts.
On November 5, 1949 he married the love of his life, Kathleen M. Holys. Together they began a life of devotion and grand adventure, raising six children until his beloved Katie was called to the Lord in 2004, after 54 years of marriage.
He was employed by the local natural gas company as a welder for 42 years, until his retirement in 1989.
Frank is survived by his children, Frank Jr. (Kathy) of Norfolk, NE, Mike (Vicki) of Columbus, Mary (Greg) Trease of Norfolk, NE, James (Kathleen) of Cleveland, OH, Julie (John) Heimann of Columbus. One sister, Pearl Kosinski of Columbus, and two brothers, Wesley Bird and Bill Schwartzer, both of Columbus.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; daughter Joan Schwartzer-Goodman; parents, John Joseph and Anna (Wilcynski) Schwartzer; one grandson, Edward James Schwartzer; and a brother John Schwartzer.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grand children, with numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was very active in his church and community, with lifetime membership in St. Anthony's parish. He was a current member of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department, serving since 1961. In 2009 The American Legion Department of Nebraska honored Frank as their "2009 Firefighter/EMS of the year". He was active in the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Church Choir, Eagle's Club, and was a Veteran of the National Guard. He was voted class president of his Senior Class at Kramer High School and will always be remember as a "Prince of a Chap and King of Good Fellows."
