Francis J. "Frank" Murphy was born September 8, 1922 in Greeley, County, Nebraska to Joseph and Florence (Petersen) Murphy. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1940. Frank married Maryo Carrig on November 9, 1942 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church in Platte Center. He entered the United States Army from November 5, 1942 until December 14, 1945. Frank served in the 11th Armored Division. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He returned to Columbus where he worked at Rogers Motors. He then owned and operated the Downtown Texaco, Billies Cafe and Murphy Standard. Before retiring in 2000 he worked at K-O Vending. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
