Francis Edward Beister passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Morys Haven in the presence of his family.
Francis Edward Beister was born February 23, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, NE to Edward and Lucille (Perry) Beister. He spent his early years on the farm in Greeley County where he attended country school. He moved to Boone County and was raised in farming country. He attended high school in Cedar Rapids where he worked at the gas station in town.
Francis graduated in 1953 and moved to Columbus where he worked various construction jobs and spent some time at Behlen Mfg. He went to work for Irrigation Pump Co before entering the US Navy in 1956. Francis received his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Base at Chicago, Il.
He was stationed at Hutchison, KS before going to NAS at Alameda, CA. Francis worked as a hydraulic mechanic on the Demon Jet before his discharge in 1958 on Treasure Island.
Francis moved back to Columbus where he was united in marriage to Marjorie Olson on June 30, 1962 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. He returned to work at Irrigation Pump Co until its closing. Francis then went to work for Wemhoff Mfg. until retiring in 1996.
Francis enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers and horse races with his friends. He had a vast collection of western movies and country music. He enjoyed his garden every year and helped with canning and freezing vegetables. During the winter months he worked on puzzles.
