Frances died Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Columbus Community Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. She donated her body to Creighton University School of Medicine.
Frances Lee Sohl was born May 20, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ernest and Stella (Evans) Martinez. She spent her youth in Utah, Tennessee, South Dakota and Nebraska where she graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1952. On January 2, 1954 she married George Warren Sohl in Wahoo, Nebraska and three children were born to this marriage. Frances was employed by Vishay Dale Electronics as a Division Secretary in Quality Assurance from 1961 until her retirement in 1995. She was then employed by the Columbus Housing Authority from 1999-2002 and Immanuel Lutheran School from 2004- 2006. She belonged to a number of service organizations that included: Womans Division of Chamber, Columbus Area Arts Council, American Business Womens Association and Silver Creek American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Frances was a life-long learner and enjoyed taking classes and workshops in a variety of areas and served as a volunteer for the Literary Association, Red Cross and Columbus Hospital.
Survivors include her three children; John (MaryAnn) Sohl of Wahoo; Robert (Laura) Sohl of Burke, VA; Lisa (Jim) Salmon of Wakefield; eleven grandchildren; Danielle, Greg, Caleb, Luke, Mark and Mariah Sohl; Jennifer (Bob) Hurley, Elliot, Nathan, Alex and Owen Salmon; four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father Vernon Martin.
