Frances Bonk, age 83, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2007 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Reverend David Fulton officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. C.D.A. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Monday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial is in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Frances C. Bonk was born January 18, 1924 near Spalding, Nebraska to Alois and Celia (Dubas) Savage. She graduated from Spalding Academy in 1941 and received her Teacher's Certificate from Midland College. Frances taught at a country school near Spalding. On August 13, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles "Stanley" Bonk at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. Frances worked for Becton-Dickinson for 23 years until retiring. She later enjoyed working as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Catholic Daughters, and Area Block Rosary. She taught First grade at St. Bonaventure Grade School and later volunteered there. She was loved as a teacher and was very good with slow readers. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
Frances was a partner in practical jokes with her late husband, Charles "Stanley" Bonk, with whom she loved to travel. She was fond of playing cards, collecting figurines of angels, watching game shows, and doing word puzzles. Her smiles will be remembered and missed, as will her Christmas fudge. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
