Floyd died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.

Floyd was born on May 4, 1922, in Fullerton, Nebraska to James and Barbara (Liss) Niedbalski, and was raised in the Platte Center, Nebraska area. As a teenager during the Depression, he left school to go to work for the family by joining the Civilian Conservation Corps. Floyd then served in the Army during World War II from Oct. 24, 1942 to November 13, 1945, fighting in several major battles, including the Battle of Salerno, Battle of Anzio, and the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he settled in Columbus, and operated his own service station, Floyds Standard Service. In 1963, he sold the business, and partnered with his brother Ted in owning and operating the Ski Lounge, in downtown Columbus, until 1977, when he went to work for the Columbus Post Office full time as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

He was married to Helen Nosal on June 14, 1949, in Columbus, Nebraska. In 2014, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
He was a long-time member of St. Anthonys Church in Columbus, and served as the Treasurer of their Holy Name Society for 27 years. He was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very active at the church, especially with repair projects. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
