Florence Galley of Columbus died Tuesday, June 14 at her home in Columbus.
Florence Cecelia Galley, the daughter of Levi and Catherine (Beidinger) Messersmith was born May 28, 1911 in Madison County, Nebraska. She attended school in Humphrey for 10 years and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1932. Florence was united in marriage to Vincent L. Galley, Sr. on February 7, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Columbus. Florence worked numerous jobs befroe retiring at age 80. She was the first badge carrying policewoman in Columbus. She policed many teen and wedding dances as well as being the night guard at the jail. Florence also worked at Scott's Dime Store, the Sales Pavillion, Y-Knot Cafe, Joe and Al's Grocery, and at the Telegram. She was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Eagles Auxiliary, and served on the Election board. Florence enjoyed embroidering quilts that she loved to give to family and friends.
