Fern Evans

Fern Evans, age 89, died Friday, August 23, 2019 at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.  Visitation is 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a 1:45 p.m. Family Prayer Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial is in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.

Fern Jeannine (Settgast) Evans was born January 23, 1930 in Platte County Nebraska to Walter and Emma (Hollman) Settgast. She was baptized February 16, 1930 at Christ Lutheran Church by Pastor Barneman. Fern attended school at District 44 and District 2. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, NE in 1941. In 1943, they moved to a farm in Platte County. Fern then attended District 65 where she finished 6 ^th , 7 ^th , and 8 ^th grade. She moved to Columbus where she attended Kramer High School. Fern was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in 1944.

On May 27, 1948, Fern was united in marriage to Donald Evans. To this union, five children were born: David, Robert, Daniel, Michael and Jeannine. She did many school bus trips with her children. Fern received a lifetime membership from the West Park P.T.O. She sang in the choir and served on funeral groups at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Fern enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She loved being with her 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
