Fern Uvene Cranmore, 89, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday April 25, 2004 at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons, Kansas. Services are 10:30 am on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Visitation is on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home and continues Thursday morning from 9:30 until service time. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Fern Uvene Cranmore was born September 10, 1914 in Memphis, Texas to Oliver Lee and Rosa Valeria (Robert) Malloy. She moved to Colorado where she attended schools. Fern married Clifford Cranmore on December 16, 1930 in Trinidad, Colorado. They lived on a ranch in Western Nebraska and in Texas before returning to Nebraska in 1952, living in Cedar Rapids, Norfolk, and Columbus. Fern loved gardening, flowers, cooking, and especially her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one son and two daughters, Robert "Dwane" (Marlene) Cranmore of Rapid City, SD, Betty (Jim) Woods of Parsons, KS, and Lois (Gerald) Demuth of Fredericksburg, VA; two sisters, Billie (Ray) Fuller and Eva Robison of Amarillo, TX, and five grandchildren; Ronald Greek, Jr., Robert Cranmore, Jr., Pamela Demuth-Duin, Gerald Demuth II, and Julie Demuth-Drobot, and one step-granddaughter, Cathy Classen. Mrs. Cranmore is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; Damara, Paige, Tynan, and Tristan Duin, Matthew, Zackery, and Paiglyn Cranmore, and Danny Calvert, and two "adopted" great-grandchildren, Mark and Eric Calvert.
She is preceded in death by her husband, two sons Kenneth and Marvin, two granddaughters, Vicki Greek-Calvert, and Tina Greek; five sisters and two brothers.
