Ferdinand Mihulka

Ferdinand (Fritz) Mihulka of Columbus died Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at Columbus Golden Living Center after his battle with Alzheimers.

Fritz Mihulka was born June 24, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska to Fred and Emma Mihulka. He grew up in Columbus with six brothers and sisters. He enlisted into the Coast Guard in 1942. He served for four years, serving several years overseas during World War II. He participated in numerous campaigns including Iwo Jima D day and Okinawa, and provided needed supplies soon after the atomic bombing in Nagasaki. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Motor Machinist First Class. Fritz was a proud member of the VFW.

He attended Columbus Public Schools and worked in his father's automative business after his duty in the service, and also owned and ran the Archway Motel later changed to the Sandman Motel and Skelly filling station with his brothers. He retired after working many years in the Mihulka's Auto Electric Business that he and his three brothers owned. On August 17, 1948, he married Genevieve Dubsky at St. Mary's Church in Schuyler. They built a home in Columbus where they resided for 62 years. Fritz was a loving husband and father to his six children. He deeply loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His passions were golf,dancing and fishing. He loved to go dancing most every Saturday. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, volunteering as an usher for many years.

Son: Don (Sue) Mihulka of Lincoln, NE
Grandchildren: Kelli, Chris, and Megan
Daughter: Pam (Scott) Souders of Columbus, NE
Grandchildren: Justin, Nikki, and Eric

Brother: Ray Mihulka of Columbus, NE

He is preceded in death by:
