Evelyn Edna Sock, age 89, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday February 1, 2002 at the Genoa Long Term Care Center. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday February 5, 2002 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sock was born February 6, 1912 in rural North Bend, Nebraska to Charles and Mattie (Zehr) Burmood. She later moved to Bellwood, Nebraska where she attended school there. The family then moved to Columbus. Evelyn was a beautician for a short time and then was employed at West End Grocery. On April 1, 1937 she was united in marriage to Joseph Sock at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. At that time they purchased the West End Grocery and operated the store until 1950.
Evelyn was a member of St. Isidore Church, and for many years was an active member of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters for over 50 years, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Election Canvassing Board, and was a charter member and one of the first officers of the Eagles Auxiliary. She also volunteered with the St. Isidore's School lunch program. Evelyn loved flowers and plants, playing cards where she belonged to two bridge clubs, and visiting with people. She had a special way with children and enjoyed having them around.
