Evelyn died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Evelyn I. Furby was born June 16, 1925 at the farm home west of Fullerton, Nebraska to John and Catherine (Kula) Cyza. She attended schools in that area. Evelyn spent much of her youth helping care for her invalid mother who was bedfast 33 years with painful rheumatoid arthritis. On November 28, 1946 she married Ralph Bud Furby. They lived in Fullerton, Lincoln, Platte Center and Columbus.
Before retiring she was employed as a banquet room waitress at the New World Inn. She was also caretaker of the new St. Joseph Parish Hall in Platte Center and later worked for the Columbus Community Hospital for 14 years. From 1982 till recently she spent time touring 20 states from Washington, DC to Seattle, WA; from Minneapolis, MN to Arizona, Texas and Mexico, visiting relatives and friends and dancing to big band polka and country music. Recently due to complications from surgeries she was keeping closer to home.
Evelyn enjoyed her family and friends, her home, art, gardening, bird watching, fishing and flowers. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Theresa Sodality and the V.F.W, American Legion and Eagles Auxiliary.
She also served as president and other offices for St. Anns Sodality at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. In 2002 Evelyn was presented a plaque of appreciation for work at the Lake Benton, MN music festival by Larry and Brenda Olsen.
