Evelyn K. Bruegger stamped her passport for the last time as she traveled to heaven on Thursday, August 24, 2017.
Evelyn was born January 25,1926 in Gorin, MO to Wallace and Hazel Kittle. She married Donald H. Bruegger in 1945 at Burlington, IA. After Don's death in 1959, Evelyn returned to school and completed her BA at Avila University, Kansas City, MO and her MA at Central Missouri State, Warrensburg, MO. Until her retirement in 1990, Evelyn's passion was community college education and community enrichment. She started her career at Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, IA before being recruited to develop the Communicative Arts Division of the new Central Community College Platte Campus. Evelyn also partnered with many Columbus businesses to provide professional development for their employees.
Evelyn was active in Delta Kappa Gamma at the state and local level, National Council of Teachers of English in Junior College, and Phi Theta Kappa. She was committed to Hospice and Home Health, Family Ministry, and Crime Stoppers. She enjoyed playing bridge, was an enthusiastic world traveler, and loved nature.
Family was very important to Evelyn. In 1996, she was blessed with a second marriage to Norman Benolken (deceased) expanding her already extensive family: Barb (Jerry) Friesth, Steve (Diane) Bruegger, Cindy (John) Kubisch, Jeff (Marie) Bruegger, Norma (James) Kauffmann, Mary Jo (Dwight) Loseke, Eugene Benolken (deceased), 18 Grandchildren, 19 and 8/9 Great Grandchildren, Betty Lile (sister) Macon, MO, and a large extended family.
