Evangeline "Van" Chlopek, age 95, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at her home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation is Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 vigil at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 8-9:30 am at McKown Funeral Home. Burial is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Evangeline was born December 30, 1923 in Columbus to John & Anna (Pilakowski) Mitera. She grew up in Genoa and graduated from Genoa High School in 1942. After high school, Van worked for the US State Department in Washington DC. On May 23, 1945 she was united in marriage to Joseph Chlopek in St. Edward. They farmed in the Belgrade Cedar Rapids area. Van and Joe owned and operated the West Chicago Store in rural Genoa for 15 years. The couple then moved to the farm near Richland. Van loved quilting, mother nature, and cooking. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, perpetual adoration, Secular Order of Franciscans, and a lifetime member of D.A.V. Auxiliary.
