F. Eugene "Geno" Kneifel died Friday, December 19, 2008 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Geno Kneifel was born April 14, 1930 in Columbus to Carl and Edith (Bader) Kneifel. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1947. On April 19, 1949 he was united in marriage to Delores Hopkin at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Geno started Kneifel's Champlin Service in 1962 which later became known as Geno's Minno Mart and Ice. Geno's hobby became his business. He has written a column in the Columbus Telegram about fishing since 1972. He worked with the Boy Scouts teaching them about ice fishing and worked with the Columbus Manor taking the residents fishing on an annual basis. Geno also announced the turtle races at Columbus Days for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock cars, and his labs. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
