Eugene German

Eugene (Gene) Leo German was born April 19, 1945, in Humphrey, Nebraska to William and Conradia (Veik) German. Eugene passed on May 21, 2023.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. September 8, 2023 , at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. September 8, with a family prayer service starting at 9:30, all at the church. Interment with Military Honors by The American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard is in All Saints Cemetery.

Eugene lived in rural Humphrey, Nebraska. He attended school there at St. Mary's School. When the family moved to Columbus, he attended St. Bonaventure School, graduating in 1963. While in high school, he participated in state track meets as a distance runner.

Eugene served in the US Army Artillery Branch from November 20, 1968, until June 24, 1970. During his service time in Korea, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge.

Eugene received a Bachelors and Master's of Science degrees while attending UNL from 1968-1973 in Civil Engineering.

He worked at Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff Engineers, Kansas City, Missouri from 1973-1976. He then moved over to the Senior Bridge Engineer position at TranSystems in Kansas City from March 1977 until his retirement in May of 2013.

Gene was married to Susan Francis Bevz on October 4, 1974, and "unofficially" adopted her son, Roger Bevz.

After retirement, Gene and Sue enjoyed many international travels. His hobbies included: building model ships, photography, and music (especially sound systems.)

Former wife: Sue German and her son, Roger, of Independence, MO
