Erwin Schacher, 93, of Duncan died Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 am Monday, December 17 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. Visitation is on Sunday from 3-6 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:30 am until service time at the First United Methodist Church. Interment is in Roselawn Cemetery.
Erwin E. Schacher was born February 28, 1914 in Platte County to Joseph and Louise (Mueller) Schacher. He grew up in the Columbus and Monroe area. He was united in marriage to Ethel Smith on September 11, 1937 in Shelby, IA. He farmed south of Monroe in the Duncan area until moving into the town of Duncan in 1959. Erwin also worked as an electrician, plumber, and as a handyman until he retired due to health problems. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus where he was an usher and a greeter. Erwin served on the Duncan Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Duncan school board, and on the Duncan town board where he served as the Mayor of Duncan. He was inducted into the Platte County Ag Society Hall of Fame in 1991 and was a member of the Lion's Club.
