Emil E. Staroscik, age 74 of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at his home.
Emil E. Staroscik, son of Edward J. and Imogene D. (Lohr) Staroscik was born August 30, 1936 at Columbus, Nebraska. He received his elementary education at St. Stanislaus School in Duncan and graduated from Duncan High School in 1954. Emil married Charlotte A. Kurtenbach on September 7, 1957 at Holy Family Church in Lindsay, Nebraska. He joined the Army and served on active duty from October 1956 till October of 1958. He was recalled briefly in 1962. Emil was honorably discharged in November 1962. Emil was the owner/operator of Duncan Oil Company from 1958 until 1988. He was employed at Paige Electric from 1989 until 2000. After retiring he worked part time for nine years as a driver for Linwood Artificial Breeders. Emil enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. His other hobbies were golfing, fishing, watching college football and the New York Yankees games. Emil coached youth baseball for several years in Duncan. While living in Duncan he was a member of the Lions Club, St. Stanislaus Church and the Holy Name Society. He also served on the Duncan Fire Department and the Village Board. Emil was currently a member of St. Isidore Church and an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus, Eagles, a permanent member of American Legion Hartman Post #84, and a life member of Amvets post #10.
Emil is survived by his wife, Charlotte A. Staroscik of Columbus, 3 sons: Mike of Grand Island, NE Dave (Chris) of Beatrice, NE, and Gregg (Annette) of Omaha, NE; 3 daughters: Barb (Len) Dryer of Parker, CO, Julie (Kevin) Zuroski of Carlsbad, CA, Lisa Wilke (Brett) of Stanton, NE; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Robert (Gail) Staroscik of Longmont, CO; 3 sisters: Mary Kinzer Theim of Columbus, NE, Janet (Chris) Hoer of Duncan, NE, and Rita (Don) Smith of Falls City, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents.
