Elwin D. Shupe, the son of Brown C. and Clyde (Fowlkes) Shupe, was born October 28, 1931 at Meadow Grove, Nebraska. He grew up in Newman Grove and attended High School there. He went to trade school in Omaha. Elwin served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from January 14, 1951 until February 14, 1954. Elwin married Ruth Ann Sellhorst September 24, 1955 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. Ruth died July 27, 1989. On September 17, 1993 Elwin married Velma Ashby Dreifurst at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey.
Elwin loved his grandchildren and Nebraska Football. He enjoyed playing golf, dancing, and woodworking. He always looked forward to happy hour especially after doing his yardwork. He worked as a Stationary Engineer for Peter Pan Bakery and Greater Omaha Packing. After moving to Cornlea in 1978 he owned and operated Cornlea Steak and Grog. He was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church and American Legion Post 84 in Columbus.
