Elmer Louis Weverka, age 86, of Columbus passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Mckown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation is 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday and continues 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Elmer Weverka was born February 24, 1935, in Sargent, Nebraska to William and Agnes (Schneider) Weverka. After his father's passing, his mother remarried John Maxfield. Elmer was the third of eight children and also a twin.

Elmer received his early education in Burwell, Nebraska up until the 9th grade. On May 27, 1956, Elmer was united in marriage to Lorrena Janette Gydesen in Burwell. The couple lived in Ord before moving to Columbus after the birth of the couple's second daughter. They had four girls, Cynthia, Gaylene, Kimberly, and Kelli. In the early years Elmer worked construction. After getting married he worked at a rendering plant, driving trucks. When the couple moved to Columbus, he did carpentry work and later worked at Becton Dickinson where he retired after over 32 years.

Elmer loved going on family camping trips when the girls were young. Playing cards with friends. Every Friday his wife and he would go out to eat with his twin brother and his wife and their many friends. He was a lover of collecting cars, from Mustangs, Corvairs, to his Nissans/Datsun 280zx. Elmer was a tinkerer, you could either find him doing something in one of his many garages or working on his vehicles. He also enjoyed going to swap meets, flea markets and garage sales. Buying things where he could find the best deals.  After retirement the couple purchased a cabin out at Ernst Lakes. There they enjoyed their retirement, fishing and having family gatherings.  After their eldest daughter became ill, they sold their cabin and moved back into town to care for her. After their daughters were grown, they helped with the raising of their many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Once he got older and couldn't get around as much, he enjoyed sitting in the kitchen looking out the window. There he would enjoy watching the birds eating out of the feeders. Watching the cows in the field in front of the house. You could catch him sitting outside on the front porch swing with his best pal Buddy soaking in the sun rays.
