Elinor Viergutz

Elinor M. Viergutz, age 98, of Columbus died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Elinor was born May 30, 1912 in Columbus, Nebraska to Louis and Mary (Stanzel) Glur. She received her education at St. Francis Academy in Columbus. She married Gus Viergutz on October 19, 1936 at Savanah, Missouri. They were married 56 years at the time of his death in 1992. She has lived and resided in Columbus all her life. Along with raising her family, Elinor was the former owner of Glurs Tavern and Viergutz Lumber Company with her husband Gus. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, a 60, year member of Catholic Daughters of America and a member of St. Ann's Society, now Christian Mother Guild., where she held many positions including president. Elinor was active with perpetual adoration, St. Bonaventure Adult Choir, American Legion and was a charter member and served as president of the Columbus Volunteer Firefighters Auxiliary of which she belonged for many years. She was also a member of the Columbus Town and Country Extension Club.

Memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church.
