Elaine Vanek

Elaine Vanek, 80, of Lincoln died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Monarch Hospice Home in Lincoln. Services are 2:00 pm Monday, April 23 at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Visitation is on Sunday from 5-7 pm and continues Monday from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home. Interment is in Circle Mound Cemetery in Rising City. Memorials are suggested to Monarch Hospice of Lincoln.

Elaine Natele Vanek was born January 8, 1927 in Columbus to Arthur and Marian (Minick) Selden. Elaine graduated from Rising City, Nebraska High School in 1943 and graduated from the National Business Institute in Lincoln. She was a secretary and bookkeeper. Her hobby was genealogy and she wrote a column called "Platte Valley Pioneers" for the Columbus Telegram for several years. She also compiled two genealogy books, "Vanek Family History" and "The Selden Heritage".

Elaine married John Vanek on July 20, 1945 in Osceola. The couple lived in Rising City and Columbus.
