Einar Sorensen

Einar Sorensen, age 97, of Columbus died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Miksch will officiate. Visitation is Sunday 5-7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday morning 8-10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard will be in the Roselawn cemetery.

Einar Sorensen was born May 4, 1909 in Nykobing, Denmark to Anders and Anna Sorensen. At the age of 17 he moved to the United States. He lived with his sponsors, Andrew and Nanny Hansen in the Genoa area. Einar married Agnes C. Noonan on March 30, 1963 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a truck driver for Wheeler Transport until his retirement.

Einar served in the United States Army with the 743rd Tank Battalion during WWII. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-day and awarded the Silver and Bronze Star for his courage and bravery in the service of his country. Einar was a longtime member of the VFW, and loved to visit with his many friends at the club.

Survived by: Brother: Magnus, Sisters: Dagmaar and Thora, all of Denmark. Sons Joe (Alice) Noonan,, Columbus, Don (Dolores) Noonan, Omaha. Grandkids Dale, Kris, Yona, Dan, Rick, Terri, Jack, Dave, Kim. Numerous great and great great grandkids, nieces and nephews here in the United States and Einars birth home of Denmark.

He was preceded in death by: beloved wife Agnes, son Tom, daughter: Marilyn, (Skip) Harsh, Brother: Gunnar and Sister: Ingelborg.
