Edwin died Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Edwin H. Heft was born April 4, 1922 in rural Primrose to Cornelius "Neal" and Helma (Peterson) Heft. He was raised on a farm near Primrose and rode his pony to and from country school before graduating from Cedar Rapids High School in 1940. On January 25, 1942 Edwin was united in marriage to Gloria Whiting in Burbank, California. In 1942 he entered the US Navy and served in World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. In 1949 he returned to Primrose where he farmed with his wife and 2 kids, Eva and Ronald. He also sold Archer Oil and Shaklee Products. Ed was a fiddler player and attended a lot of fiddling contests and jams. He won some trophies but his biggest honor was when he was picked by Minnie Pearl to play with her on stage. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0347 in Primrose.
