Long time Columbus resident Edward Leo Kubicek, 88, died Sunday evening at the Golden Living Center.
Edward L. Kubicek, the son of John and Mildred (Novak) Kubicek was born October 3, 1922 on a small farm near Valparaiso, Saunders County, NE. In his younger days Ed worked as a farm laborer until he was called to duty in WWII serving his country as a driver with the 3818 Gas Supply Company in The Battle of Biac Island. Upon his return he worked at Lyman Richie Sand and Gravel and finally as a glass annealer for the Becton-Dickinson Company, retiring in 1982. Ed loved to socialize with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed dancing and spoke fondly of attending dances at the Oak Ballroom. Ed married Lucille Eva Boswell on November 26 1954 in Schuyler, NE.
Survivors include sons, Edward John Jr. & Danny L. (Penny) of Columbus and daughters Joan M. (Dan) Davis of Columbus and Sandra F. (James) Jacobson of Bremerton, WA, ten-grandchildren, eleven-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Tillie Kubicek of Columbus and brother-in-law James Alt of Lincoln.
Preceding him in death is wife Lucille, grandchildren Tracy & Nick Davis, his parents, one infant brother and brothers Emil, John Jr., William, Joseph, Alouis "Louie" and Charley and sisters Rose, Helen, Lillian and Mary. Ed was the last surviving sibling of the John Kubicek Sr. family.
