Edward J. Gavlik of rural Columbus died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at his home.
Edward John Gavlik was born March 2, 1949 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Alvin and Stasia (Drog) Gavlik. He grew up in the St. Edward area before moving to Silver Creek in 1964 where he graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1967. Ed served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from August 1968 - July 1972 where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Forrestal. On May 20, 1969 he was united in marriage to Jackie Powers in Silver Creek. Ed lived in Silver Creek before moving to Columbus in 1978. In 1973 he began working for Behlen Manufacturing where he was currently a master mechanic and EMT. Ed was a member of St. Anthony Church, Columbus Volunteer Fire Department from December 1988 - September 2009 where he served as Captain and was currently serving as Commander of the Silver Creek Post #263 American Legion. he was an avid husker fan, enjoyed riding motorcycles and 4-wheelers, photography and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
