Edward J. Coan, age 85 of Columbus died Friday; April 16, 2004 at the Beverly Health Care in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 20, 2004 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Reverend Joseph A. Miksch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery with military honors by the Monroe American Legion Swanson Post #322 Honor Guard. Visitation is 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday with an 8:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home.

Edward John Coan was born November 21, 1918 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Patrick and Eva (Sumovich) Coan. He received his education in Genoa where he grew up. On August 21, 1942 he entered the United States Army and served in the Signal Corp in Africa and Italy until October 12, 1945. He married Frances "Jeannie" Zimmerman on April 15, 1950 in St. Edward, Nebraska. Ed farmed in the Oconee area. From 1967-1983 he worked at the Alfalfa Mill in Monroe. He also worked part time at Husker Co-op in Columbus. Ed was an active member of St. Isidore Church where he served as head usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name, American Legion Swanson Post #322 and V.F.W. #3704.

He is survived by:

Brother: Bill (Donna) Coan of Platte Center, NE
Brother: Joe Coan of Omaha, NE
Eight Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren
