Duane L Bruckner, age 77, of Platte Center, NE., died at Columbus Community Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2001. Services are 10:00 AM Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center, NE. with Fr. Rod Kneifl. Burial is at Sts. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors by Parry Post #283 in Platte Center, NE.
Visitation is from 3-5 PM Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6:00 PM Friday at St. Joseph Church in Platte Center. There will be a 7:30 PM Vigil Friday at St. Joseph Church. Visitation will continue from 9:00 AM until Service time Saturday at St. Joseph Church.
Duane was born February 26, 1924 in Platte Center to Felix & Leona (Lammers) Bruckner. Duane attended Platte Center High School and graduated from Creighton University. He married Mary Agnes "Aggie" Brockman at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lawrence, NE. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from March 1943 - December 1945 as a Technican Fourth Grade Transportation Corps stationed at Ft. Means, Alaska. He lived in Omaha before moving to Platte Center where he owned and operated Bruckner's Mercantile Store for 42 years. He was member and past commander of the American Legion, former Lions Club member &Lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #3704. He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, Endowment Fund, & Cemetery Board. Duane loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening.
