Douglas "Gabby" Smith

Douglas Raymond Smith, 74, of Columbus, died Friday, September 12 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2025 at Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Columbus. Visitation is Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m., followed by a 6:00 p.m prayer service, all occurring at the Church . Interment is at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion .

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be designated to the family for later designation.

Douglas (Gabby) Smith was born June 21, 1951, in Albion, Nebraska to Kenneth and Fern (Borders) Smith. Doug grew up and attended Albion High School, where he graduated in 1971. Following graduation, he worked at the Sinclair gas station his father owned. After the gas station was sold, he went to work for Gene and Dorthy Atwood. He moved to Columbus in 1984, where he worked for SIS. While working there, he met Marti Liner. They were united in marriage on February 16, 1985. After, he went on to trucking school with Marti in 1987. Before he got a trucking job, he worked for Butler County Law Enforcement. He was injured in a semi accident that made him take time off work. When able to return to work, he worked many other jobs, including for the Sprunk family and Lyon Transfer.

He enjoyed Coca-Cola, Lays Pickle chips, ice cream, candy bars (particularly Hershey's), fishing, working on automobiles, driving trucks, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed western movies, looking at car magazines with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and studying his bible.

Doug was a proud 41-year friend of Bill W.

Wife: Marti Smith

Children: Rick (Debbie) Lindholm, Mike (Shawna) Lindholm, and Audra (Bruce) Gasper

Grandchildren: Maxine (Kyle) Stuhlmiller, Tyler Gasper, Zane (Chela) Gasper, Koltyn (Emma) Lindholm, Chantel Block, and Aidan (Brennan) Hill.

Great Grandchildren: Kenzie, Reid, Kean, and Ryatt Stuhlmiller; Lucas, Adrian, and Isabel Gasper; Gotham, Arkham, Anarchy, and Mayhem Block.

Doug is preceded in death by:

Parents: Kenneth and Fern Smith

Brother: Kenny Smith

Daughter-in-Laws: Igna Lindholm and Bobbie Jo Lindholm

Great Grandson: Grayson Lindholm

and many other family and friends.
