Doris Van Diest

Doris died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Doris L. Van Diest was born January 4, 1929 on a farm northwest of Platte Center to Robert C. and Genevieve E. (Nelson) Evans. She graduated from Newman Grove High School. Doris taught in the rural schools and subbed in Columbus. She married Harold Van Diest on March 27, 1949 at the Federated Church in Columbus. The couple lived in Columbus before moving to California while Harold served in the U.S. Navy. In 1951 they moved back to Columbus. Doris did daycare in her home and worked at Dale Electronics. She sewed and sold Barbie clothes in her spare time. Doris was the oldest living member of the Federated Church where she served as Womens Fellowship President, Circle leader, funeral committee and assisted in the office. She was a 40 year member of the Eagles Club and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. Doris was also a member of the Navy Mothers and past president of the Behlen Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at the Columbus Community Hospital and spending time with her family and friends.
