Donald Schott

Donald Schott, 94, of Silver Creek passed away, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 peacefully at his home in rural Silver Creek. Services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation is Saturday April 13, 1-2 p.m. at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.  Immediately following the service the family invites everyone to Wunderlich Catering 304 23rd Street in Columbus.  Interment will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Donald L. Schott, the son of Edmund C. Schott and Josephine (Augustin) Schott was born October 8, 1929 in rural Polk County, Nebraska. He attended 1st grade at Polk County Grade School District 13, then attended Silver Creek Grade School for three years, before returning to Polk County and graduating from Osceola High School in 1947.

Upon graduation from high school he moved to rural Silver Creek and began his long career as a cattle feeder and farmer.

On May 7, 1952 Donald was united in marriage to Evelyn L. Drog at the St. Edward Catholic Church. The couple lived on a farm south of Silver Creek where they raised their five children. They celebrated 70 years together.

He traveled extensively during his lifetime and enjoyed playing cards. His favorite time of day was sunrise feeding the cattle and watching the steam roll off the silage and the cattle all lined up at the bunks.

He loved to be surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them on the farm.

Donald is survived by his four children: Deborah Olson of Silver Creek, NE., Gordon (Janet) Schott of Silver Creek, NE, Karen Muckel of Doniphan, NE., and Jami (Chris) Wichman of Crescent, IA; nine grandchildren: Loyd B. Olson III, Elissa (Derrin) Kula, Aaron (Jennifer) Schott, Megan (Mike) Mintzmyer, Jason (Annie) Schott, Alison (Matthew) Sutton, Karah (Coye) Harris, Caleb Wichman, and Cailynn Wichman; fifteen great-grandchildren: Matthew, Maryn, and Maxwell Mintzmyer, Kylie, Chloe, and Emily Schott, Jase Olson and Carter Kula, Loyd B. Olson IV, Lily and Hudson Olson, Evaly, Harlow, and Wrenly Harris, Harper Schott and two bonus great-grandchildren: Gavin Gilmore and Allison Kula.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, and his daughter Beverly (Schott) Vrbka, his parents Edmund and Josephine Schott; Brother: A.C. Schott; Sisters: Alice Olberding, Eloise Nelson and Jeanice Franco.
