Donald "Red" Korger, 73, of Columbus died Friday, July 15, 2005 at Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Loseke officiating. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is on Monday after 5:00 pm at St. Isidore Church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm, also at the church. Visitation continues Tuesday morning from 8:00 -10:00 am at McKown Funeral Home.
Donald "Red" L. Korger was born August 18, 1931 in Columbus to Frank J. and Helen May (Kirkman) Korger. He was baptized, received 1st Holy Communion and was confirmed at St. Bonaventure Church. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1951. Don served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 - 1956 where he was stationed in Japan for 18 months. Following the service he attended Milford College taking up auto mechanics for 2 years. On September 7, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mildred I. Roddy at St. Bonaventure Church. Don owned and operated South Side Skelly Service Station and Car Wash for 25 years. He was a member of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department (Hook & Ladder) Company for 15 years. He was a member of St. Isidore Church, Honorary Member 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as 4th Degree Faithful Navigator 2 yrs., Honor Guard Team 15 yrs.; Council #938 Grand Knight 2 yrs., District Deputy 4 yrs., Publicity Chairman 2 yrs. and Church Director 2 yrs. He served on the Columbus City Council 2nd Ward for 8 years. Red enjoyed camping, dancing, biking, fishing, hunting, horse shoes, bowling and blue rock shooting.
