Don Peters, 91, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025 in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. December 29, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood. Visitation is December 28 from 3-5 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. Vigil service, at McKown Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors by the Laverne Schmit Post 327 will follow at St. Mary and Peter Cemetery in rural Bellwood.

Don Peters was born October 30, 1934 in David City, Nebraska to Clarence and Margaret (Meysenburg) Peters. He was raised in the Bellwood area and graduated from Bellwood High School. After graduation Don went to Kearney College. On November 24, 1956 he married Thelma (Babe) Brandenburgh. He was drafted into the Army which then took them to Missouri and Oklahoma. They returned to Bellwood in 1959 where they built their home & for many years the most beautiful lawn in Bellwood. Don went to work at BD Medical Systems, retiring after 39 years of service. After retirement Don and Thelma traveled to numerous states and many places abroad. They remained in Bellwood until 2022 at which time they moved to Columbus. Don spent the last 2 years and 3 months at Cottonwood Senior Living Community in Columbus.

Don enjoyed sports. He was a coach for Bellwood Men’s Fastpitch Softball, Little League Baseball and Girls Fastpitch Softball over the course of many years. He enjoyed Nebraska Husker Football, golfing, and bowling.

Don was a member of the Bellwood Volunteer Fire Department, Cemetery Board, and Church groundskeeper for many years.

He is survived by: Daughter Janet (Kenny) Kallenbach of Bellwood, NE

Daughter Susan (Marcel Vondrak) Bartholomaus of Kingsley, IA

Son James (Kelley) Peters of Omaha, NE

5 Grandsons: Tony, Ryan, Blake and Logan Bartholomaus and Jameson Peters

1 Granddaughter: Kasey Peters

3 Great Grandchildren: David, Wyatt and Sydney Bartholomaus

Sister: Rita Lopez of Denver, CO

Sister-in-Law: Delores Brandenburgh of Arlington, TX

Many nieces and nephews

He is preceded in death by his wife Thelma in September of 2023

Parents, Siblings and Spouses (Delores (Tom) McCawley, Phyllis (Bill) Douglass, Paul (Shirley) Peters, Mary (Gordon) Zeller, Salvador Lopez) teenage sister Honora and two infant brothers.
