Dennis Eugene Miller, 87, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024 at Emerald Care and Rehab in Columbus, NE. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa (papa).
Visitation will be held 4-7 pm on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with a vigil following at 7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
Dennis was born on February 24, 1937 in Canova, South Dakota to George and Ethel (Johnson) Miller. He graduated from St. Agatha High School in 1956 where he loved to play basketball and baseball. He served in the National Guard for 8 years. After high school he attended college for one year and then worked for Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas. On June 24, 1961 he married Kay Marie (Feldhaus) at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD.
Dennis and Kay moved to Columbus in 1961, where he franchised the first Pizza Hut in Nebraska and they started their family. He made pizza's for Columbus and surrounding towns for 25 years. He then started United Eggs in Schuyler where he managed the operation and farmed land. He retired in 1989.
Dennis was a devoted member of St. Bonaventure for years, where he was a Eucharistic minister and usher. He cherished his holy hour of obligation in the early morning hours to be with our Lord.
Dennis was a member of the Knights of Columbus #938. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and supported many fund raisers for St. Bonaventure and Scotus High School. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed Cornhusker football, pheasant hunting, dance club, and playing bean bags at the cabin with a Pepsi in hand.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kay (Feldhaus) Miller; and his children, Kelly (Alan) Haney of Aurora, CO, Tammy (Tim) Zuerlein of St. Louis, MO, and Amy (Jeff) Morton of Columbus, NE; 7 grandchildren (Adam, Andrew, Emma, Alex, Morgan, Tyler, and Alyssa) and five great-grandchildren (Axton, Karina, Kenzington, Brinley and Margot).
Dennis leaves behind siblings and in-laws, Duane (Shirley) Miller, Jan Mills, Mel (June) Miller, and Marvin Miller. Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Virgil Miller and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Bonaventure Catholic Church or Scotus High School.
