Delores Shanle

Delores Shanle, age 76 of Columbus, died Thursday, May 28, 2026 in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Wednesday, June 3 at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward. Visitation is on Tuesday from 5-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Vigil service to follow, also at the Church. Interment is in the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery.

Delores "Dee" Shanle, age 76, passed away at Emerald Care in Columbus, Nebraska on May 28, 2026. Dee was born in Humphrey, NE on September 19, 1949 to Edwin and Josephine Sliva.

On April 8, 1978, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Shanle. Together, they built a life in rural Genoa, farming east of St. Edward before moving into St. Edward in 2001 to operate a local welding repair shop. For many years, Dee was a familiar and friendly face at Werts' GW grocery store, a job she loved because it allowed her to visit with her neighbors and friends.

Known for her humor, Dee enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing cards, always looking forward to games with her friends, and she never turned down the fun of a trip to the casino.

She is survived by her son, Joe Shanle, his wife Mary and their son Noah, all of Trenton, NE. Dee also leaves behind her four sisters: Marge (and the late Tom) Syslo, Gerri (Dick) Brdicko, Janet (Jerry) Paprocki, and Rose (Duane) Becher, many in-laws from the Shanle side of the family, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends from St. Edward and the surrounding communities. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jerry.

Dee was light-hearted and always ready with a joke and a laugh. Her warmth, humor, and easygoing nature will be missed.
