Dean Thompson

Dean Thompson, age 70, died Friday, December 2, 2022, at his home in Columbus.

Memorial Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Isidore Church. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Joseph/Patrick Cemetery in Platte Center.

Arvid "Dean" Thompson was born May 15, 1952, in Tilden, Nebraska to Arvid C. and Patricia Nadean (Gress) Thompson. He graduated from Columbus High School. On February 27, 1976, he was united in marriage to Betty Soulliere in Platte Center.
Dean was a lifelong carpenter. He was traditional in his tastes, but if you asked nicely, he would install shiplap…which was a four-letter word in his mind. However, it would be the tightest fitting ship lap you ever saw because he was a fit and finish type of guy.  No gaps; no fillers; no putty. There was no sense in doing something eight times if you just did it right the first time. In typical fashion, everything Dean did was over engineered and over built, so good luck if you ever want to change his work! Feel free to do so, just know it's not coming apart easily. Some people hide stuff in walls or sign the back of a piece of casing before pinning it in place. Dean didn't need to do that. His work spoke for itself. You can find it on any street in town, and even the surrounding area. Retirement was a loose term in the Thompson Ranch. Now he can finally sit back and relax. We've got this, Dean. We will pick up the tools, sweep the floor, turn out the lights and we'll lock up when we're done.
