Shadow Pfeifer died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Mory's Haven in Columbus.
D.E. "Shadow" Pfeifer was born on October 14, 1928 to Frank (Doc) and Veronica Pfeifer in Columbus. He attended Columbus Public Schools. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 48th Field Artillery Battalion during the occupation of Japan. He received the WWII Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged having attained the rank of Corporal. In 1950, he was recalled into the Army and served in Korea with the Company B 7th Cavalry Regiment where he earned the Combat infantry badge and the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars. He was honorably discharged having attained the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Upon his return to Columbus, Shadow married Donna Putnam on May 26th, 1956. Shadow began his public utility career as a lineman for NPPD. In 1956, he then went to work for General Telephone Company for 27 years retiring as a Division Manager in Columbia, Missouri. After retirement, he moved back to Columbus where he started Frontier Communications. He also worked for Frontier Directory Company and Minnegasco. His hobbies included Hunting, Fishing, Trap Shooting, Traveling, Golf, and Woodworking.
Shadow is survived by his wife Donna, Daughter Kristine (Brent) Stewart of Columbia, Mo., and Son Terry of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Francis, and Sister-in-Law Betty Pfeifer.
