David H. Gaspers, 78, of Columbus, passed away on March 20, 2018 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Dave was born on February 14, 1940 near Lindsay, NE to Harry and Emma (Weidner) Gaspers. He grew up in Lindsay, attending Holy Family School and Newman Grove High School. Dave served in the United States Army from 1962-1965, achieving rank of Specialist, while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. Following his time in the Army, Dave continued serving his country with the United States Postal Service in 1966, the same year he was joined in marriage with Kathleen Reeder. After his retirement from the Post Office in 1988 he managed his own lawn service and worked at the Columbus Manor for 10 years.
Dave was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, F.O.E #1834, and N.A.R.F.E. Dave had a wonderful mind for all mechanical things and always kept his hands busy with numerous hobbies. He loved model trains, John Deere lawn tractors, woodworking, gardening, cars, music and movies. His favorite sports teams included the Nebraska Cornhuskers and St. Louis Cardinals. He loved spending time with his large and loving family.
Dave is survived by his wife: Kathleen; sisters: Patricia (Dene) Barrett and Emily Amaral; daughters: Christine Bartlett-Wilsey, Margaret Bartlett, Ann (Dan) Gdowski, Denise (Byron) Diamond, Jean (Tobias) Kiuntke, and Rachel Strong; sons: Richard (Karla) Bartlett and David Aaron (Katie) Gaspers; as well as 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Dave is preceded by parents: Harry and Emma Gaspers; sister: Carolyn Kingston and son: William Bartlett.
