Darwin "Hot Sticks" Jaster, age 72, of Columbus died Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church. A Vigil service will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home with Visitation to follow the service until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Interment is in All Saints Cemetery.
The Vigil and Mass will both be broadcast on the McKown Funeral Home Facebook page.
Darwin Jaster was born July 10, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa to Emil and LaVonne (Gabel) Jaster. He grew up in LeMars, Iowa until moving to Columbus in 1962. Darwin graduated from Columbus High School in 1966. Darwin married Bernadette Turek on August 2, 1969 at St. Bonaventure Church. He worked at Jaster Champlin Café before going to work as a truck driver at Wallace Oil and at CLX Express. In 1978 he started his own business, Jaster Trucking. Darwin retired due to health reasons in 2010. He was a member of St. Isidore Church and past member of the Eagles Club. Darwin loved drag racing, stock car racing, working on cars, participating in the Truck Rodeo, and spending time with his family and grandkids.
