Daniel "Dan" Woerth of Columbus died Friday, November 16, 2012 at his home.
Dan was born to Barbara and John Woerth of Columbus on October 16, 1961. Dan attended Scotus Central Catholic high school and graduated from Columbus Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then went on to continue his education at the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Dan enjoyed a successful woodworking career, and was an artist in wood. He won many awards for his work including The Journey Museum in Rapid City, SD and the Midnight Star in Deadwood, SD. Dan was passionate about his work but also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, an activity that he started at a very young age and continued throughout his life. Dan had a great sense of humor and always had a pun or two to share. Dan was past manager and an active volunteer at the Columbus American Legion where he received recognition as the Volunteer of the Year, and Legionnaire of the year. He was a proud member of the American Legion Honor Guard and Legion choir. Dan loved music and cooking. He had a heart as big as this world and often helped others in need.
Dan is survived by his wife, Nancy; step daughter, Megan Merritt, step sons Adam Lewis of Omaha, Troy Gagnon Kunsan, Korea, parents: John and Barbara Woerth of Columbus, sister: Julene Woerth (Bailie), brothers: Michael (wife Sherri) and Patrick Woerth of Columbus, nephew: Collin Anderson of Columbus, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by grandparents: Leo and Lillian Woerth, and James and Nina Mitera, all of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Columbus American Legion Building fund.
