Daniel McNair, age 86, of Columbus died Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born November 16, 1930 in St. Libory, Nebraska to Ben B. and Ella E. (Kelly) McNair. He graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1948. He then attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA and graduated from the University of Nebraska in June of 1950. He graduated from Creighton University and married Nancy J. Scanlan in 1953. They lived in Munich, Germany where Dan served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Dan returned to Columbus and has lived in the same house since 1957. Dan passed the bar, practiced law, and served as Deputy County Attorney from 1955 to 1959. Dan opened Citizens Bank & Trust Company with his father in 1959. He retired as Chairman, President and Trust Officer of the Bank in 1992 and continued to work on his private business interests. Dan traveled with his family and smelled the roses until a back surgery in 2004 slowed him down. In his later years, Dan enjoyed his garden, Creighton basketball, Husker football, conversations with his many friends, and spending time with his family.
