Curtis Allen Wennekamp, 67, of LaGrange, Kentucky, died Friday, April 12, 2024 at Baptist Health Hospital in LaGrange. No local service is planned. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska.
Curtis was born on July 24,1956 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Eugene and Lillian (Miller) Wennekamp. The family lived in Minnesota, North Dakota, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio before settling in Columbus, Nebraska in 1975.
Curtis joined the Navy and, upon his discharge, returned to Columbus to begin a career as a floor installer with BK FloorCrafters. He was married to Virginia Vetick for 16 years; the couple had two children, Kelly and Darin.
In the mid-80's, Curtis moved his family to Saunders County and attended Metro Community College in Elkhorn where he received a degree in Photography. He ran his own photography studio in Wahoo, Nebraska during the 90's. He then relocated back to the Columbus/Humphrey, Nebraska area until 2017 when he moved to Kentucky.
Curtis enjoyed photography, listening to heavy metal music and collecting train memorabilia.
He is survived by daughter Kelly and granddaughter Kaydence of Columbus, NE; son Darin of Lincoln, NE; sister Kim Wennekamp of Eminence, KY; sister Sandra Bailey of Vandalia, MO; sister-in-law Irene Wennekamp of Lincoln, NE; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.
Curtis was preceded in death by grandparents Herman and Ursula Wennekamp and Harold and Sophie Miller, parents Eugene and Lillian Wennekamp and younger brother Randy Wennekamp.
