Curtis A. AIms, 80, of Columbus, lost his courageous battle with cancer on
Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at his home.
Curtis was born February 16,1937, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Anton and
Cora (Diercks) Alms. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School.
Curtis joined the U. S. Navy, and was honorable discharged on December 11,
1957. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic
Controller in 1993 after 36 years of government service. After retirement he
was active in The American Legion, Elks Lodge, Columbus Area
Recreational Trails (CART) as a volunteer, a member of The Eagles, and
National Association of Retired and Federal Employees (NARFE).
Curtis married Rochelle Winter July 12, 1958. He married Joyce Bell in
1980, and she had two children, Terry (Romeo) Mejia, and the late Jerry Bell.
Curtis married Caroline (Fiala) Cerny on November 7, 1987. Caroline had
three daughters, Debra (Carl) Spenner, Kelly (Leroy) Sprunk, Christine
Cerny.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife Caroline, and 4 daughters, 14
grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Marlys Alms, and Betty
Johnson, many nieces and nephews.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald, Gerald and
Wilbur.
He enjoyed his career as an Air Traffic Controller, working in 17 different
locations nationwide, and retiring from the San Francisco bay area. He had
several airplanes, and enjoyed flying. Curtis enjoyed family, friends, coffee
clutches, golf, and bowling.
