Clarence R. "Shorty" Starostka, age, 91, of Grand Island, formerly of Clarks, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Clarence was born June 7, 1923 in Clarks, Nebraska to Leo and Eva (Stopak) Starostka. He attended grade school in rural Merrick County and graduated from Clarks High in 1940. He moved to Columbus, Ohio where he worked at a military aviation factory. He married Louise Teterus on September 10, 1946 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Tarnov. They farmed in the Clarks and Silver Creek area until 1955 when he moved to Wisconsin where he farmed until 1963. He returned to Clarks and bought Shortys Bar. He and Louise owned and operated it for 34 years. In 2005 he moved to Grand Island. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting, polka music, and tinkering in the shop. He especially enjoyed his family including his grandchildren and great grandchildren and following their activities.

Son: Marc (Teresa) Starostka of Grand Island
Sister-in-law: Rosie Starostka of Grand Island
8 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Louise, brothers: Bill and Bob, grandson: Michael Starostka
