With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Charles H. Rogers, on November 25, 2025, at the age of 87 in Columbus, Nebraska.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the McKown Funeral Home.

Born in 1938, Charles married his loving wife Leona in 1963 in Evanston, Illinois. Above all, he dedicated himself to providing for and supporting Leona and their four children.

Second to his family was his work as an attorney at law. At an early stage of his life and career, he earned a prominent position as Legal Aid and Advisor to the Police Commissioner of Chicago. In the early seventies, he moved his family back to Nebraska and opened his own law practice in Columbus. Charles had the ability to quickly assess any issue or problem that was presented to him and provide a path to solution.

Charles was active in the community, including his work with the Columbus Community Band and the Boy Scouts of America. One of his most cherished activities was organizing and participating in providing Christmas dinners at the Federated Church for those who simply had no one to be with on Christmas day or needed a meal delivered. He brought the entire family into this endeavor, and his favorite photograph was one of himself and Leona, working side by side in the kitchen preparing those meals.

Charles had a fascinating mind that held a wealth of information. No matter what the situation, he could easily find a story, a historical quote, a line from a poem, or a joke that was tailored for the situation at hand.

Charles is survived by his wife Leona; their children, Joseph, Nan Pettit (Scott), and Kate Wythers and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John, his father George, his mother Virginia, his brother George, and his sister Joanna.
