Charles "Stanley" Bonk, 83, of Columbus died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Columbus Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday, June 22 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is on Thursday from 4-8 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a 7:00 pm Vigil service, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Friday morning from 9:30 until service time at the church. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Charles "Stanley" Bonk was born August 22, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska to Charles P. and Anna (Kuta) Bonk. He received his early education at St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from St. Bonaventure High in 1940. He served in the United States Army during World War II from January 29, 1943 until January 21, 1946. He was married to Frances "Fran" Savage on August 13, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Church. He worked at Ace Sand & Gravel for 38 years and Gerhold Concrete for 10 years. Following his retirement, Stanley worked for B & W Manufacturing. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where he ushered for 46 years and the Knights of Columbus Council #938. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
Stanley loved working in his yard and tending to his flower garden. He was an all-around handyman, a practical joker, enjoyed playing cards, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
