Charles E. Bond of Columbus died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Golden Living Center of Columbus.
Charles "Spike" E. Bond was born October 16, 1915 in Silver Creek to Harold and Lorna (Powers) Bond. He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1934. He married Bernice McDaniel and moved to Chicago, Il where he obtained a job driving trucks from Chicago to New York. Following her unexpected death, he married Inez Frederick. They were married for 29 years and had 3 children together. In 1944, Charles was drafted into the US Army. He served one year stateside and one year overseas in the European Theater and in the South Pacific. He received one Battle Star for the Battle of the Bulge. He also played in the Fort Lewis Post Band. Charles married Mollie Clark and was owner/operator of 5 trucks working for Yellow Freight System. He retired after 44 years on the road with 4.25 million miles without a chargeable accident. Following Mollie's death, Charles married Florine Edmison whom he had dated in Silver Creek while in high school. They were married on October 3, 1985 in Everett, WA. Charles and Florine moved to Columbus in 2008. Charles was a member of the Silver Creek American Legion Post #263 and the "Old Time Fiddlers". He enjoyed playing cards.
