Catherine Wibbels

Catherine (Cathy) L. Wibbels, 91, died Sunday, September 19th at Brookstone Acres in Columbus, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus.  There will be a C.D.A. Rosary on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service also at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Catherine Wibbels was born in Platte Center on Nov. 26, 1929, to Raymond and Lena (Hembd) Hauser.  The family moved to Columbus in 1931.  She married Robert Hadley Dec. 23, 1950; the marriage ended in 1957.  On June 29, 1974, she married Edsel Wibbels.

She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1947, earned a B.A. from Wayne State College in 1950, and an M.S. from UNO in 1960.  She commuted to high schools in Platte County to teach and worked at BD 5 years.  In 1965, she started the Guidance Dept. at Columbus Junior High, and then transferred to Columbus High as Guidance Counselor.  She retired from Columbus Schools after 21 years.

Cathy was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and served as a Lector.    She belonged to The Catholic Daughters, Servants of the Heart of the Father, and several teacher organizations.  She was a lifeguard, swimming instructor and lap swimmer for many years.

Grandchildren: Bill G. Hadley, J.D.; Allison (Patrick) Grout; Michael Hadley; Britt (Alex) Ide J.D.; John (Holly) McDaniel; Meredith (Hongrong Chang) McDaniel, Shelby (Jason) Byler, DDS., and Caitlin Botsios;
Great grandchildren: Mackenzie Grout; Cora and Tobin Ide; Morgan and Thane McDaniel; Olive Grim; Oliver and Elizabeth Chang; Berkley and Pierce Byler;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Wibbels in 2010, her brother, Raymond Hauser and her parents.

Following the Services her body will be donated to Creighton University Medical School. Her cremains will be returned later to Columbus for private family burial.
