Carolyn A. Bernt, age 71, of Columbus, formerly of Greeley, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Mory's Haven. Funeral services are 10:30 am Thursday, August 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Visitation is on Wednesday from 5:00 -8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.Visitation continues Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley. Interment is in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley.
Carolyn A. Bernt was born October 17, 1935 in Spalding, Nebraska to William and Clara (Mansfield) Nelson. Her mother passed away when Carolyn was an infant, and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, George and Amelia Vandenberg. Carolyn was raised in Montana and Spalding where she graduated from Spalding Academy. She married Francis "Mike" Bernt on October 17, 1953 in Spalding. They lived in Omaha, the Pibel Lake area and settled in Greeley in the early 1960's. Carolyn worked as the secretary for her husband's business, Spalding Restoration, until Mike's health failed at which time she became his sole caregiver. She also worked as a secretary at Greeley Public School until poor health caused her to retire. When her health deteriorated, she moved to Columbus to be closer to her family. Carolyn enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Nebraska Football. She was an excellent seamstress and cake decorator.
