Carol S. Kilgore, age 81, died Sunday, November 8, 2020.

Private family services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2020 at McKown Funeral Home. Burial is in Columbus Cemetery.

In lieu of plants and flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Columbus Rescue Mission in honor of Carol.

Carol was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 16, 1939 to parents Joseph Jackson Field and Sylvia Ruth Johnson. Carol graduated from the 1957 class of Irvington High School in Irvington, Nebraska.

Carol married Gary Fay Kilgore in Rising City, Nebraska on June 27, 1959. Carol and Gary lived on their 400-acre farm five miles north of Rising City until they moved to Columbus, Nebraska in 1985. They had three children, Gary Duane, Denise Lynne and Vicky Carolyn. Carol and Gary divorced in 2007.

Carol's greatest passion was writing poetry about the world she saw around her. She also loved photography and often wrote short phrases to describe what she saw in pictures to develop craft products to sell at craft shows all over Eastern Nebraska. Carol was very proud to show and sell her poetry and photography for over 30 years at shows such as the Seward, Nebraska Fourth of July Festival.

Carol is survived by her two daughters: Vicky C. Kilgore (Larry [Pete] Wehry) of Shelby, NE and Denise L. (Robert) Wendl of Parker, CO; grandchildren Cassie (Gavin) Coffin of Osceola, NE, Mikayla Woodard of Omaha, NE and Adam (Teddy) Falkingham of Belgrade, MT; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Jesse and Wade Coffin; and Nick, Ryker and Augustus Falkingham. Carol was preceded in death by her ex-husband Gary Fay Kilgore and her son Gary Duane Kilgore. Carol will be laid to rest at the Columbus, NE Cemetery.
